Why Visit Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s principal savannah safari destination, offering a very different experience from the country’s famous mountain gorilla and rainforest attractions.

Its landscape combines open plains, woodland, wetlands and lakes, creating varied habitats for wildlife. Game drives provide opportunities to see large mammals, while boat experiences around Lake Ihema add a different perspective.

Akagera is an excellent choice for travellers who want to add a traditional African safari to a Rwanda itinerary, particularly after gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
